First solo!

Wow well what a few weeks! They certainly flew by! Excuse the pun!

Just a quickish update with some nice fancy pictures :)
7 weeks here have gone so quick and today i just completed my first solo flight! This basically involves doing 3 landings and take-off's, all which are done in the "pattern" which is basically a rectangle.
It was a great feeling after the first landing, just knowing i had flown the plane all on my own with no input from my instructor. So off with the old epaulettes and on with the new one striped ones!

On the trading front, i actually have managed a few sessions which have been ticking me over nicely! Thanks to a "UK" ip address!

That's all for now but i will hopefully post some more photos/videos soon so watch this space. Hope your trading is going well.

Ciao

And it begins....

Flew over to the sunny states on Saturday to start my pilot training. So far its all been induction and paperwork, so have had time to catch some rays and get to know the place. All great so far and the sun is shining everyday, better than back home! Will hopefully try keep the blog updated as much as i can but obviously it will be to do with flying instead of trading as betfair is banned out here!!!!! Anyone any tips how to have a bet please let me know!

That's all for now but will try get some pics ups/video over the coming months.

Best of luck to everyone trading!
Ciao for now

Eurovision!

Just a quick one!
Here was my set up for trading the Eurovision winning market.....Brother on one laptop with map of europe open and my laptop open with the market open.

My overall plan was to back countries that were close to the country giving the points out.......as easy as pie!
Made a tasty £90 for 20minutes work!
Same time next year me thinks!!

France were favourites @ around 2.7 before the start.....when i saw them sing i wondered why the hell where they! And the voters agreed!

Anywho off to play some backgammon (more like learn how to play, because betfair have recently added it to their arcade)

Time for some Green tea

Up early today and trying green tea for the first time. Have heard all the benefits it can have, so I've jumped on the bandwagon! Please god don't make it taste crap!

Managed to trade the Boston V's Miami game last night in the playoffs. What a game it was. Miami trailed for 99% of the game then Lebron managed to kill the game at the end and somehow they won by 10. I managed to make £22 on the game in the 3rd quarter, so was happy just to watch the rest of the game. In the first quarter i was down £14 but manged to crawl my way back into the green scalping on timeouts and on breaks. There is so much room to this in basketball its crazy especially in the 2nd half as the swings are more drastic if the game is within a few points. Generally the price will move 5-6 ticks correcting itself on timeouts. As people sometimes over estimate the swing in-play. Have a go at it, if you have time you will see what i mean.

Anyhow, I'm off for a run now on the treadmill. Time to sweat!

Will be trading both the tennis and horses later, my bank at the minute sits on just over £100. I will be building my bank from now on and wont be withdrawing any of it, as i am off to Florida in 9 days to start pilot training so won't be needing the money from betfair. Hopefully i can make it up to a decent amount.

Ciao.

Betfair you pile of....

Just an email i sent to Betfair, waiting for their standard lame copy paste response, something along the lines of....
"We are working hard to fix this technical issue bla bla bla...."

Hi

Can you give an approximate time as to when the betfair site will be back up?

p.s. can you give them lads up in engineering a slap as these technical issues are beyond a joke!
Thank you :)

Just a quicky...

I'm off to the land of Nod in a moment so i will make this quick!

Not the best day for my cheeky bets at Cheltenham! But all is hunky dory in the land of trading!
Was a scrappy day for me trading, i started the day not focused and it quickly resulted in a loss on the first race! So i went off, shook myself together, had a cold shower (not that i wanted one! The boiler wasn't working!) and had a quick "energy" snack. I managed to recoup my losses and make a small profit of £34.80 for the day, just in time to as i had football.

Haven't had time to look at tomorrows card properly so will give my cheeky bets a miss. I'm going to try and make these quality bets from now on, not just hit and hoppers (there will be some reason behind them! May it be the horses name sounds good? I joke!)

I fancy a good day for Graham Lee at Ayr tomorrow! And Jim Goldie normally has a good day up there.
So i will look to have some E/w bets when the two are combined.
Lets see how they get on!

Cheltenham take two!

Had a good day yesterday with my selections so have had another look through the card and picked out a few more cheeky bets......

14:10 2m1f Nov Hrd

Waiting till tomorrow to see what the place odds are on Higgys Ragazzo. 2.48 Place, 2nd WIN
Can't personally see Third Intention winning this race.
Will probably be a battle between Ruby and AP.

No big bet for me. Small Place on Occasionally Yours ( will take SP ) LOSS, Pushed along from along way out

14:45 2m5f Hcap Chs

Win bet - Ravethebrave (7/1) LOSS
E/w bet - Mr Syntax ( 13/1)   ODDS CHANGE (19/1) LOSS

15:20 2m5f Hcap Hrd

Win bet - Ocean Transit ( 7/1 ) ODDS CHANGE ( 9/1 ) LOSS, Didn't travel well at all.
E/w bet- Diklers Oscar ( 15/1 ) ODDS TAKEN AT 15/1 now 8/1 LOSS, well backed before hand but didn't jump well

15:55 3m1f Hcap Chs

Win bet - Bellflower Boy ( 4/1 ) LOSS 3rd
E/w bet - Bai Zhu ( 5/1 ) LOSS 4th

That's all for me for Cheltenham for now may edit post tomorrow if i see any other opportunities.
Thankfully trading the races before the off normally covers my bets so its a win win.
(ODDS SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

On another note: When i was trading on Newmarket today (in-running) i noticed there was a pretty strong bias for the inner stalls (1-3), this applied to most races under 7f.

As a tester i am going to back all 3 inside horses from the off on the ;

15:35 6f Listed

Stall 1 - Himalya (13/1)
Stall 2 - Brave Prospector ( 36/1 )
Stall 3 - Poets Place ( 18/1 )

I will put a lay bet in @ half the odds and see where it gets me.
This will more than likely go Pete Tong! But hey ho worth a go!
All horse's traded lower than their SP's however none traded @ half there odds so small loss but made it back by trading pre race.

As for todays racing i made a tidy some of £93.80 trading.
I also made £9 trading the Chicago @ New York Basketball game.
Plus i made £12 trading 2 tennis games around midday.

So a good day all round.

Hope it goes as well tomorrow!

Couple of Cheeky Cheltenham bets today

Just decided to a have a few cheeky bets today on the first 3 Cheltenham races. I've picked one horse to win and one horse E/w in each race.

14:10 2m4f Nov Hrd

Win bet - Bold Addition ( 4/1 ) WIN
E/w - Bottman ( 8/1 ) 2nd WIN

 14:45 3m4f Hcap Chs

Win bet - Toby Jug ( 5/1 ) LOSS (FELL)
E/w - Shammy Buskins ( 7/1 ) 2nd WIN

15:20 2m4f Hcap Hrd

Win bet - Kings Legacy ( 5/1 ) LOSS 2nd
E/w - My Shamwari ( 17/1 win bet on Betfair, 5/1 place bet Betfair) 1st WIN

Lets see how they get on!

Best of luck everyone trading today.

Midnight tennis

Couldn't get to sleep so had a look to see if there were any decent tennis matches on to trade. Thankfully there was! So that kept me occupied for 20minutes or so. Have greened out for £5 just now, decided not to be greedy!
Here's a quick print screen of my set-up:

Aside from starting to trade tennis more frequently, i decided to play around with The Geeks Toy a bit more.
I've been right clicking all over the shop and have been looking at all the different options that are available. I really don't know why i didn't do this in the first place because the standard layouts (which can be accessed by right clicking on the ladder) are just awesome! I now use different layouts depending on which sport i am trading on. In the snapshot above i am using the In-Play layout, which is a great asset for tennis trading as you get to witness the swings more accurately and also you can green up on the ladder itself by clicking just to the right of the odds, which is a great feature.

The layout which i have found most helpful, surprisingly to me, is the Financial layout. I use this solely for pre horse race trading. I have started pre horse trading again since i have found this layout and it has helped me leaps and bounds, having the graphs directly under the ladder and candlesticks to the side of the odds of each horse is great. Everything is in clear view and you can process the numbers a hell of a lot quicker.
To summarise, the geeks toy is quite possibly "the best in the world".

In my last post i said i would upload another video, however camtasia crashed on me and started having an epileptic fit on my screen so i was forced to remove it as it had clearly had to much to drink and had to be escorted off the premises. But all is well! As i have found a new piece of kit which records just as quick and also doesn't cause my screen to lag which is great! So will try and get a video up as soon as.

Regarding the pilot training front, i have to go to the US embassy Thursday to go for a interview for my visa. When i was filling out the online form there was one Question that made me stop and just think......really?

Q. Have you ever been involved with a terrorist organisation?
       (   )  YES
       (   )  NO

.....what terrorist in their right mind would tick yes.........i think the Americans have been watching to much of Liar Liar!

Anywho off to bed!

Summer Summer time!

The sun's starting to shine through again today, thank god!
Going to record another video today, not sure what it shall be yet (in-running or not) but will just go with the flow!

Stay posted!
Good luck trading today all.

* Update: Camtasia crashed on me, so will try record something soon!

Cornetto anyone?

Grand day today, no hiccups!
Traded up until 3:30, was happy enough with my profit so decided to stop for the day. Went off to the gym then to have a chill out. Haven't been able to go recently as i pulled my tricep, but thankfully I'm all fit and well now!

Just noticed today that Betfair have Live Video now for the RacingUk tracks? Since when did they pull that one out of the bag!? It's great for me as i only could trade in-running on the ATR courses and this is where i make most of my profit.
I've started using the tick offset feature on The Geeks Toy now, which you can find by right clicking on Stakes and tools. I use it before the race scalping the market. Its a great feature when you're using large amounts to scalp with a small bank, for instance today i had a bank of £70 to start the day, so when I'm scalping i can't place numerous orders around the market so I'm ahead of the queue, but with this tick offset feature it automatically puts a lay bet in (or back bet depending on which you put in first) when i start getting matched. Its a nifty feature and I'm just starting to get to grips with it. HOWEVER! As i also trade in-running i have to make sure i turn it off before the race starts, because i like to swing trade in-running. Today i was a jackass (to put it bluntly) and forgot to turn the tick offset off before the race began. Needless to say i didn't know what was going on and panicked! Came out with a small profit from the race so no harm done! But lesson most definitely learned!

Off to make some chicken drumsticks now and some salad yummm yummm! Then a bit of Fifa later to cool down!

Trade safe

Kie

Successful night, will it be a successful day?

Chicago last night had no blip whatsoever, they said they would get revenge for losing a 30 point lead last time they played Atlanta, and that's exactly what they done. The final score was 114:81.

I fancied Bulls from the off so i backed them during the day at 1.6 and 20 minutes before the off i layed them at 1.55. I done this so that i could watch the first few points go in and see how both teams were playing. Bulls initially went behind, albeit for a few minutes. After they went back even i backed them again @ 1.52. I watched the first 2 quarters and by the end of the 2nd they were available to lay @ 1.13. So that's what i did, however i didn't green up my £42 which i had on Bulls,i just felt that they couldn't throw the game away twice so i stuck with the green on them. Thankfully they cruised on to win the match.
I've still got a long way to go and a lot more to learn about each team and the structure but so far so good.

On to today!
I'm hopefully going to trade most of the races today. My structure for trading at the minute is that i trade every race before the off, but if that race has a live stream (the races on ATR, not the races on RacingUK) i go in-running and trade in-running and when I'm happy with my green i close the market and move on to the next race. Sometimes it can be after the first furlong of the race, sometimes i have to wait till the last 2 furlongs. It all depends on how the race is won. I feel that its very important NOT to be greedy with the amount of Green you get, as I'm sure many of you have done before, you manage to get a decent green on a race and in your head your saying "MOVE ON TO THE NEXT RACE, TAKE THE GOD DAM GREEN!!" but then your fingers and your ego come into play and you start clicking, thinking "I CAN MAKE MORE LOOK WHAT I'VE MADE ALREADY!!" and then of course you go on to take a loss or lose the better part of your profit!

If i get a decent green after the first few races i will most likely go outside and enjoy the sunshine as its like 16'C today! Suntan lotion time!! (I wish)

Stay Hydrated people

Kie

*Just added: Since when do Betfair show RacingUK races? Sweet!

Learning new sports

When i say learning new sports i don't mean learning how to play them, i mean learning how to trade them! Like when is the best time to back a team/lay a team. What are the stats saying for that particular game?
And of course a lot more!

The past week I've started to trade on Basketball games. I spent hours trawling the Internet to look for a near enough live feed so i could watch the games i was trading on, which is a must! Luckily after a few attempts i found a pretty decent site which shows some live streams (2-3 second delay).
 link --> http://www.livescorehunter.tv/

At the moment I'm just trying to learn the league structures and trying to learn the all the important stats.

I managed to trade the New York Knicks V's Boston Celtics game last night. At one point the Celtics were behind by about 16points. However they managed to come back and win the match by 10 points. Luckily i managed to lay Knicks at 1.20 and got out at 4.2 for a nice profit of £16.

Hopefully going to trade the Bulls vs Hawks tonight, really fancy the Bulls to win it (currently @ 1.6) However I'm a newbie so don't mark my words!

Looking forward to learning more about trading the sport because as of the end of May i will be in the States for 10 months.
Also learning a new sport really keeps you on your toes.

Ciao for now,
Kie

Monday 14 March 2011

All set for the week!

Cheltenham starts 13:30 tomorrow (well today when I'm writing this i suppose!), I'm going to be having a few bets on the main races. I'm not sure if i will just trade on the horse i want to bet on before the off, trying to get a green on the horse and then just let it ride so that i have a freebet or just punt the more traditional way!
Have availed of a few offers like the one at Ladbrokes, which gives you a few free bets once you've staked a certain amount, the usual story.

Here's a few of my selections, looking forward to seeing how it plans out!

13:30 - Spirit Son (7.0) Betfair
Also got a few quid on Zaidpour which i will probably trade at in-running.

15:20 - Peddlers Cross (5.5) Betfair
Same as above going to trade on Khyber Kim in-running

17:15 - Tullamore Dew (10.0) Betfair

There's my bets for tomorrow, lets see how they go!

As for trading, all is going well!
Starting to get into Basketball trading now, have managed to find live streams for the games, definitely worth some more time.

Hope everyones trading is going good.
Good luck with all the punts tomorrow!

Flying blogging

Hola all,

Haven't been able to trade much of the past few days, as I had to fly back home to complete my aviation medical. So have spent most of the time getting poked and prodded! But its all necessary!
However, when I was home I managed to trade both the Stoke v's WBA game and the Chelsea v's Man Utd game. I had, had a trial with tradingfootball.eu but sadly that ran out 2 days before the Stoke game. I'd recommend the site to a lot of people, but personally it wasn't my cup of tea. I felt the lads that were doing the trades and TOTD (trade of the day) were top notch, they knew exactly how to minimise losses when they came and how to maximise profits, all in order to protect your bank. Which is key!! The reason that I won't be joining their service is just a personal reason really, I just prefer coming up with my own trading strategy and I felt that when I was in their chat room there were quite a few headless chickens that didn't know the difference between a back button and a lay button and they were just following the the main traders orders and not even thinking about why they were actually covering a certain score etc. I feel that if you want to learn to swim, you have to jump in the pool by yourself. I'm not saying whack £500 in your account and go wild. What I did was just start off using the minimum stakes even lowering the minimum £2 bet by using the geeks toy (thank you Mr Geek!!) And then eventually when you become more confident up your stakes accordingly.

Anywho says you! I managed to make a profit of £22 in the two games, £14 in the Stoke game and £8 in the Chelsea game.
I'm only a beginner when it comes to trading football but I enjoyed researching previous stats before the game and then making my trading strategy to suit each game. I tend to select a few correct scores which I feel are a strong possibility and then cover myself by backing either under/over 2.5 goals, or whichever goal market I feel provides good cover. So its a learning process but its all good banter!

Anywho I wrote this blog on the plane using my blackberry (in flight mode don't panic I didn't cause a crash!) Got this app called Evernote amazing piece of kit. Let's me transfer a word doc/image whatever you want really directly from your phone to your account online so you can download it straight to your desktop.
Will hopefully try and get another video of trading in-running up at some point in the near future, will try get the mic to work this time so I can talk through what I'm doing (bad/good).

PS looking into getting a new laptop with a good graphics card and around 4GB of mem. Thinking about a Dell Xps 15 at the moment but would appreciate any ideas?

Trading In-running

I tried uploading a video directly onto the blog but sadly it didn't accept it for some weird reason?
No matter, i just uploaded it to youtube. Didn't manage to get any audio this time but if there's enough interest i may do a few more videos explaining my thought process during the race.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ3J4osq3XM

Since there's no audio i will explain what's happening:

  • First off its the 14:40 race at Fontwell Park. I traded on the race before the off on 'Pouvoir' but sadly got caught by a 20k trader, so i accepted a loss of £6.71 before the off. I also managed to trade the horse 'Rockoboy' who's odds were 250/1 at the time, i managed to trade a few ticks to make £9.23. I wouldn't recommend trading on such high odds but the trade just looked right at the time.

  • At around 0:45seconds in i tried to lay the Favourite 'Fruity Orooney', i tried to do this because the jockey had started pushing the horse and i felt the odds would rise. Sadly i missed the ideal opportunity twice. I then managed to get my lay matched at 2.36 for £35 and then put a back order in at 2.42. I wanted to exit the trade as quickly as possible because the race was entering its final stages and no other horse was picking up at the time.
  • My attention then got shifted to Pouvoir as it took the fence well at (1:30) and seemed to have more in the tank. (In, in-running your not looking for the horse that is going to necessarily win the race, but that is going well at the time and  shows signs that it may have more in the tank). I manged to get £25 matched at 3.70 (back side), then put a lay order in at 2.88 for £25 which was also successfully matched. This managed to cancel my red which i had on Pouvoir before the off. I then greened up across the board giving me a total profit of £12.80.
  • I changed my stake of £35 to £25 on the previous trade as i felt there was more risk involved as it was closer to the finish and if the jockey on board Pouvoir started driving the horse at this point it's odds would sky rocket, this happened on the fence after i greened up. Where the horse's odds jumped from 2.36 before the fence to a high of 10 after the fence. (Another personal rule i have in, in-running is that i try not to trade on a horse when they are jumping a fence/hurdle. As obviously if the horse falls or even hits the fence hard the odds will go up steeply.)
  • I also tend not to try trade the last 2 furlongs or so, as this is the most volatile period and because i am not at the track i do not have the "live" feed, so i am acting a second or two behind traders at the track.

Sorry if the description was a little rushed, but hopefully you can gain something from it.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Hope everyone had a successful day trading and god do i hate Birmingham! Well actually hates a big word but what a cock up!

Saturday 26 February 2011

Good day, good night !

After posting my last post i went on to trade the next day full of confidence. And of course went on to lose most of my bank YAYYY!!! So of course i was delighted! aka fuming! The thing that got to me most was that i knew where i had gone wrong and it was so petty and stupid! So i decided to have a few days off and had a pina colada!
I came back a few days later to my massive bank of £7! I was determined to get back to my starting bank one way or another! After my first day of trading (taking risks i might add, because of the size of my bank) i managed to get my bank up to a respectful £25. The following two days saw me increase my bank to firstly £45, then onto £70. This was all done by in-running trading, which i have been doing now for the past 6months, i selected my horses carefully and took small steady profits, making sure i wasn't greedy along the way. Once i hit the £70 mark i started being more cautious with my bank, using approx. £15 per trade.
My bank now currently stands at a marvelous £143. So thankfully i'm back on track!

I think overall the loss i had has helped me become more patient. Which is ESSENTIAL (cant stress this enough!) when trading (in-running especially).

I downloaded camtasia quite a while back but haven't actually used the software to record anything, so i think i may try and record a few of my in-running races tomorrow, so that i can show you how i am trading in-running and that its not total guess work at all.
So keep your eyes pricked for that.

Hope everyones trading is going successful! Am loving reading my fellow bloggers blogs, keep up the good work!

Change of circumstances

Right so here's the deal-io. I'm going to be trading full-time for the next 2 months or so as my circumstances have changed (for the better!)
So will be looking to make a steady profit per day, haven't worked out yet what i think is do able, but should be around the £30-40 mark.

Just stopped trading for today and i'm up £32.
My bank at the minute sits at £162, but i will be withdrawing some of it when i hit the £200 mark (touch wood!)

So stay posted i will be blogging a lot more!

Hope everyones trading is going great.

p.s. Arsenal cheeky win tonight? (I'm a Arsenal fan so im optimistic!)
